National Geographic
Open Water Diver Certification
As a National Geographic
Diver, you join an elite group of explorers, adventurers and conservationists.
The insight and training you gain during this program will broaden your
awareness and take your diving skills to a new level. You'll learn to observe
and explore like an underwater scientist.
Your experience begins with the PADI Open Water Diver program, enhanced with adventures unique to the
National Geographic Diver program. You will learn to explore with detail,
identify important underwater features and navigate with certainty. You will
have the diving knowledge and practice to maneuver with poise along the reef
’s ecosystems.
- You’ll learn basic dive skills and safety information through the PADI Open Water Diver course.
- You’ll be introduced to worldwide dive environments and opportunities by interacting with the
National Geographic Diver Almanac and DVD.
- You’ll learn to fine-tune your buoyancy to hover easily and maneuver carefully through
delicate aquatic habitats.
- You’ll learn how to observe your surroundings in order to get the best experience from each
dive. You’ll gain practical experience by gathering information and
collecting images to create a visual representation of a dive site,
detailing what you’ve discovered through your observations.
- You’ll improve your navigation skills and ability to find your way around underwater by using a
compass as well as natural references.
- You’ll be introduced to a multitude of aquatic species and be able to identify local plants and
animals.
Who can start a National Geographic Open Water Class?
Anybody over the age of 10 can partake in a PADI Open Water class. Participants should be able to swim 200-yards (180-m) and be medically fit. A Doctor’s clearance will be required for certain medical conditions.
How long will the class take?
We offer four class schedules:
Private Class
Private classes can be scheduled for a maximum of one or two people. The program is focused around
providing the optimum in service by holding classes based on the client’s schedule. Arrangements can also be made for dives to be made in privacy.
Group Class
Group classes are held for two evenings per week for three weeks, with the Open Water dives being held on the
weekends. Classes are for four to eight students.
Self-Study Group Class
Self-study group classes are held one evening per week for three weeks to
complete the pool training and tests, with the Open Water dives being held on the
weekends. Classes are for four to eight students.
Family Class
Family classes are a private class for a group of four to eight students. They are held on a schedule tailored to the group’s requirements.
What is included?
You receive textbooks, DVDs, tables and a logbook in a deluxe embroidered
folder, which is yours to keep. In addition, the cost includes the Instructor throughout the class, use of our regularly maintained SCUBA equipment and tanks, pool sessions,
three trips with two dives on each trip, and your National Geographic Diver certification card.
What will I need?
Students will need to provide a mask, snorkel, fins and weights for each pool and ocean dive. A wetsuit may also be needed depending upon water temperature. All equipment is available for purchase with a student discount
applied. Wetsuits are available for sale or rent.
How much will it cost?
The price of the course is $400 for group classes and $835 for a private class.
Reservations are required. Classes are paid in full when enrolling.
